Presumptive case of COVID-19 in Taloyoak
Iqaluit, Nunavut (January 11, 2022) – Dr. Michael Patterson, Nunavut’s Chief Public Health Officer, is announcing five new cases and 26 recoveries of COVID-19 today, including one new presumptive case in Taloyoak.
There are currently 192 confirmed active cases of COVID-19 in Nunavut – 21 in Arviat, 16 in Cambridge Bay, four in Chesterfield Inlet, eight in Coral Harbour, two in Igloolik, 55 in Iqaluit, 22 in Kinngait, eight in Pangnirtung, one in Pond Inlet, four in Qikiqtarjuaq, 35 in Rankin Inlet, one in Sanikiluaq, eight in Sanirajak and seven in Whale Cove.
Today’s case in Taloyoak is presumptive, awaiting confirmatory testing.
Today’s recoveries include seven cases in Iqaluit, one in Cambridge Bay, 11 in Rankin Inlet and seven in Arviat.
There have been 165 total recoveries in this outbreak.
Please note, one correction was made to yesterday’s reported numbers, there was a double count for Cambridge Bay. In addition, on January 8 we reported the first recovery in Cambridge Bay however, it was not captured under the cumulative recovered cases on January 9 and 10.
“As predicted, COVID-19 is making its way into more of our communities, and affecting more and more Nunavummiut,” said Dr. Patterson. “As we learn to live with the virus, we need to remember we know more and have more tools to stay well. Please continue to follow all the orders, get vaccinated and boosted when it’s time, look out for one another, and remember that your actions have an impact on everyone’s health.”
Nunavummiut returning from holiday travel are reminded to self-isolate for 14 days if they are not triple vaccinated, to help contain the spread of COVID-19.
