World Rabies Day 2019
Did you know? Rabies is a deadly disease; but it is preventable.
Rabies is found in Nunavut wildlife, such as foxes and wolves. It can be passed to your pet through scratches or bites from an infected animal. Pets that are infected can spread the disease to humans through bites, scratches, or by licking an open wound.
We can all do our part to stop rabies:
- Be safe; don’t tease dogs.
- Avoid stray dogs.
- Never disturb an animal that is sleeping, eating or caring for puppies.
- Vaccinate your pet regularly.
- Keep your pets tied on a leash or chain when outside.
- Contact the health centre immediately if you think you have been exposed to Rabies.
If your dog is bitten by an animal, call your regional environment health officer or local bylaw officer for instructions.
