Youth conference in Rankin Inlet

The Government of Nunavut Department of Education, in partnership with the Canadian Red Cross, held the Power for the Positive Youth conference in Rankin Inlet from October 11 to 12, 2018. The conference fostered student leadership and promoted student wellness.

Workshops focused on hope and connection, and steps to develop healthy relationships. It also taught students how to intervene when bullying happens, how to overcome substance abuse, to use their talents to better their own lives and the lives of others, how to lead an awareness campaign, and how to take care of themselves and others in difficult times.

The Power for the Positive youth conference was also an opportunity for education staff and students to connect, learn and share the importance of building strong relationships when dealing with difficult situations. Past youth conferences were held in Cambridge Bay in spring 2018 and in Iqaluit in fall 2016.
