Today in the Legislative Assembly, Premier P.J. Akeeagok tabled the report titled, Government of Nunavut’s Progress on Katujjiluta Mandate Priorities: Highlights of 2022 Achievements and Plans for 2023.
The Minister of Environment has accepted a decision recommended by the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board (NWMB) to increase the Total Allowable Harvest (TAH) of Baffin Island Caribou effective immediately for 2022-2023 harvest season.
The Department of Environment has set a Total Allowable Harvest (TAH) limit for the Bluenose East caribou herd in response to a continuing decline in the population, which has led to a conservation concern.
The Department of Environment wants to clarify recent reports that an additional government restriction on the harvest of Baffin Island caribou was put in place in October.
